The campfire session 2009

Woo, so the first ever barbeque party for the ol’ uni mates went by without a glitch! Damn appropriate too coz we used to call ourselves the campfire gang hahaha.

Woke up daaaaaamn early to buy groceries from the morning market, then rushed over to Cold Storage to get roasted chicken but realised that at RM11.90 per whole chicken, it wasn’t worth buying coz it was yesterday’s puny leftovers, so went over to Tesco to buy all the other food stuff before going home to clean and set the place up. Had a short snooze before guests start filtering in.

All this running around is so tiring that by the time everybody was gathered by the pit playing games and sloshing themselves up, I was pretty stoned and kept to eating and watching. Wouldn’t wanna get drunk before cleaning up the crime scene either. Well, everybody’s happy so I’m happy. It’s all well.

If there ever was a next time at my place, it’ll be a potluck session instead. I’m pretty smashed going all around checking prices, budgeting, lugging meat, taters, stools and tables. Anyway, many thanks to Haze and David for the drinks and especially my mum for helping me pull this together. She’s like, the superhero event organiser and consultant supremo in grocery shopping.

And one more, I don’t care if you have issues or not but when you go around passing watermelons to everybody, YOU MAKE IT DAMN SURE THE HOSTESS GETS IT TOO! Instead of ignoring her! Nabeh. Damn tired and stoned and I don’t get my watermelons, sure pissed la. Learn your manners, boy. Pft.

Lastly, PHOTOS PLEASE! Especially those with the drunkards in it.

Lesson One

Bring a flower stand for your graduation flower bouquets unless you want your arm to be sore the next day.

I was supposed to meet up with the gang today at Midvalley at noon but somehow I ended up reaching late at 1pm. And boy, I sure wasn’t the ONLY ONE LATE! The rest arrived two hours later. Figures.

So as I was riding the escalator up with Audrey to the top floor, I related to her about my very sore left arm. “Yesterday hold that bunch of flowers for so long now my arm damn sore wei!”

“EH YEALOR YEALOR! MY ARM DAMN SORE ALSO! The flowers so heavy man…” Cue laughing.

To which Justin, Aud’s boyfriend remarked that after that he was the one holding her flowers for her. Hello, that’s beside the point. Damage done already.

So I met up with all my old uni friends cramped at a table too small and chatted away at random nonsense. We talked about overprotective mothers, curfews and… rape incidents. O_O Funny that of so many things we chatted about today, those few issues were the ones that I can only remember!

Yeah so we were talking about us being daughters of overprotective mothers who wouldn’t let us go anywhere away from their sights and about coming home by 11pm. Oh, and botched overseas vacations. I almost wanted to tell them that when I was in Form 2 being a prefect, I was forbidden to join the prefect camp for two straight years. I was the ONLY prefect who didn’t get my parents’ permission and the ONLY prefect on the BOARD that failed to report in. I subsequently didn’t get to attend the prestigious high tea sessions too. Oh well, that stays in the past. I didn’t want to bring up my kiasu-ness at that time either. 😛

I guess every mother acts that way towards a daughter, sons don’t get that much mollycoddling. The daughters have to be home by midnight, inform mothers of who they are traveling with and secrets are not really secrets unless they’re kept in their own heads. Forget journals, diaries, blogs (if your mothers are tech-savvy) and smses. Mothers know exactly what is happening without having to ask the daughters about it. And when you least expect it, mothers will nonchalantly bring up an issue you have failed to inform them about and start asking questions. No more mamak lifestyles and late nights out because when you stay under their roof, you’re expected to comply to their set of rules. At least I think you get to keep your IC and driver’s license. 😛 Someone told me that he had to surrender his IC and even driver’s license at one time to his father until he was deemed at a suitable age.

Then again, mothers are just extremely worried for their daughters safety and wellbeing, what with all the news reports about rapes and snatch thefts everywhere. Women being raped in front of their boyfriends at night by robbers and being hospitalised or in coma for tripping when their handbags were snatched. Mothers aren’t wrong for being so concerned for their own daughters so even though it’s stifling to adhere to all their demands, it’s two things: It gives mothers a peace of mind knowing their daughters are alive and well and it instills a sense of discipline and caution in us daughters.

So until you’re earning a steady income and you can afford to move out, it’s best to just make them happy. After all, you’re living under her roof so you have to follow her rules. And as they say, mothers know best.

The Closure

The ending for Indiana Jones is so absurd can! I didn’t expect a bloody *insert spoiler* flying away with astounded protagonist and sidekicks sitting in the middle of nowhere waiting the night out. Even though he looks like an old fogey now, Harrison Ford still has what it takes to be an action movie star. But I guess if they are ever going to make another sequel to Indiana Jones, *insert mystery man* will be the next to helm the lead Jones.

We drove down to the Putrajaya bridge for the last time and hung out staring into the lake reminiscing about our yesteryears. CHEEEEH, LIKE WE’RE THAT OLD ALREADY. Talked about flinging stones and boulders into the lake and other randomness. I casually mentioned that we should do another stupid photo thing the guys did way back during their first year to nicely end things and we ended up posing like nutcases in the middle of the bridge at 2am!

After a breakfast-cum-farewell session with Johnson, Jin Li, Brian and Teo, I came back to watch P.S. I Love You. I tell you, I can’t stop crying watching that movie and worse still, I’ve been having a cold since Thursday and now bai nosh ish sho shtuck I can’k breeeef. Ergh…

A Longwinded List of Thank yous

And now is the moment for me to give all my sincere thanks to various people who’ve lent a hand when I was in dire need of while working on my final year project.

So heeeeere goes:

Jason Chee – For being such a chummy pal and offering invites to dinner supper class etc etc. I hate being sentimental but you’re probably the one friend who bothers initiating an online conversation and sharing stuff with me. Thanks chum! I’ll try to spot your birthday announcement on Facebook.

Sim – Lending me cash and allowing me to return slowly. I’m sorry I keep asking it back HAHAHA. And for accompanying me out for breathers when we couldn’t take the stress anymore.

Celine – Invite for dinner and movie but I declined. All wrong timing. But in the end, Prince Caspian tak jadi also right!

Liana – For being gracious every time and injecting laughs during sessions together by making fun of Teo.

Auds – For lending an ear. For supper. For CD covers and graciously helping me mend the silap typo on them. For organizing on campfire blog. For talking and helping to convince me that things might work out even when it’s almost like a cold case.

Brian and Ai Lin – For making me feel so incompetent and lowly, and because of that I shall strive harder. Coz your work damn awesome can! Oh yeah, Brian for CD burning, One night pc lending and loadMovie. Hahahaha. And buffet seafood and Iron Man!!!

Teo – For being Jarvis and yourself. You have saved a lot of lives assuming multiple personalities. When do you want Alive 07 wei. Thanks for loadMovie too.

Johnson – Can never thank you enough la. You lent your killer machine for me to render so many times until I paiseh like crazy, even though you had your own work to do. For dimsum too, coz I’ve never had a nice food session for a while now. Being around different people was kinda refreshing. I’ve got no qualms about semi deep lol.

Marwan – For your laptop. It. saved. my. life. With your laptop at hand, I have truly recognized the power of multitasking. Render while doing flash, RERENDER while doing flash. And the unconditional support. Here is one generous Middle Eastern dude with a goatee crushing people’s misconceptions of arabs and terrorist. lol kidding. You often make a fool out of yourself too. By the way, I’d love to see the final product of the Padi sessions. 😀

Ivan – There was a week when my computer died and your external hd saved the day. Damn trojan fucked up my operating system and I had to reformat. You were really helpful by coming over and helping me check out what went wrong with the old Buttercup.

Afiq – For being hilarious and really nice in filling in the details of conversations and inside jokes.

Dwong – For being a gentleman and driving us to dimsum and accompanying me back to my block. I haven’t had people escorting me back for a long time that I felt happy! Didn’t see you much during fyp though. 😦

Calvin – For scaring the shit out of my pants with the Alma impersonation. I don’t think I can forget the way you made those creepy sounds and giving a very very visually stimulating description of the whole scenario. For being a gentleman. I think I feel like playing Rainbow Six too. Shit.

Haze – For offering your pc to render as well. It was almost a render farm la hahahaha. It was good hanging out with you at night by the playground coz I’ve never had a decent conversation with you since everybody’s being consumed alive by final year assignments. If you’re reading this, do pass me the link for the fashion forum you visited. I heart!

Vinn – Render also. I really felt quite paiseh asking for your help coz I never really talked to you and there I was asking for your favor. Thanks for layaning, though I wish I got to know you better.

Boyfriend – For dinners. For conversations. For outings. For laughs. For being patient. For being REALLY patient. For trying to iron out the kinks.

Dad – For being totally and amazingly understanding. I was awestruck by paternal love. Mum – For letting me get what I want when I go home for breaks. For being understanding. For caring. A lot. For making me realise time and again that my family will always be there for me unconditionally.

Juin – For being mature and understanding and still fun to be with. For tolerating my nasty sister remarks. Xhen – For being an awful prat just to get at me and for being nice once in a while.
